People who know me, know I'm a big fan of podcasting, so I thought I'd point to a few recent podcasts I have taken in that have dealt with poetry. (BTW, contrary to popular belief, you don't need an iPod--or even an mp3 player for that matter--to listen to a podcast. You can just download the file to your computer and listen to it there if you so desire.)
The excellent CBC program Ideas now has a podcast: The Best of Ideas Podcast. The most recent program features three short interviews with poets Billy Collins, Bruce Meyer and Sheldon Zitner on the uses, the sound, and the meaning of poetry. Worth a listen, especially for the Collins and Zitner interviews. (Download the mp3 file here; subscribe to the RSS feed here; subscribe in iTunes here.)

This is my opinion on the article on Internet poetry by Frank Wilson of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Everyone is the critic, whether online poetry is indeed literature or not. What I have found talking and writing for lets say us common folks, is that poetry of years gone by, some referred to as great lierature does not meet well with many and leaves a sour note in many. Publishers frown on it,yet people are hungry for it. When my business agent reviewed all my options, he said anyone can sell your lingerie and with the recipe anyone can manufacture your bath products, but only you can write the words that touch so many. He said there are those with a PHD who haven't a clue what people are feeling. I never set out to write, for me it was survival. When strangers kept encouraging me to put my work in the gallery and on display, I said no! put my soul out there for the world to see. I had written to so many publishers about my manuscript,only to be told they are not reading manuscripts and that poetry does not sell. hmm I think to myself as I look at all the people who have my poetry hanging in their homes. Literature or a gift? I propose we ask that question of every book that is written,as I believe poetry gets a bad rap. As far as contest, I think its a bad game that turns people off of writing as there can only be one winner. I choose to let my clients be the judge, they are the ones by all means who have been paying for my literary work. I am happy to say that a ny publisher has been following my work and I am now scheduled for my first book signing. What makes a good critic, I don't think their is such a thing, unless by all means your God.
